The markets our MCB Group serves are mainly 6 small islands surrounded by the Caribbean Sea.
Your Supervisory Board is pleased to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of MCB Management in 2017.
There was no doubt that reaching the (first) centenary of Maduro & Curiel’s Bank, for years the leading banking institution in the Dutch Caribbean, was to be celebrated.
The islands of the Dutch Caribbean and especially Curaçao have always thrived and prospered during periods whereby the connections with the outside world or international environment were numerous and frequent.
At first sight, the year 2014 could be described as a calm and uneventful year, but beneath the surface there was much activity and changes in our business surroundings as well as within the MCB GROUP itself.
After a somewhat turbulent and challenging 2012, with elections in four of the main countries with which we do great deal of business, 2013 was also full of challenges and even big surprises in our communities.
In 2012, the saying “May you live in interesting times” was often used in one way or the other in our communities.
“The more things change, the more they stay the same”. This translation of an originally French proverb could certainly be applied to Maduro & Curiel’s Bank and its environment in 2011.
The past year was in many ways a year of major changes, and at Maduro & Curiel’s Bank it was a year in which we further strengthened our Bank to face the challenges that lie ahead.
In many ways, 2009 was one of the most challenging years in our Bank’s 93 year history
It is in this spirit that Maduro & Curiel's Bank dedicates this Annual Report to the biodiversity of the islands of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.
As in the past, this Annual Report is dedicated to important topics in our community. And this year, two such topics.
In a business proposal to establish the new Maduro's Bank in 1916, our Founder, Joseph (Shon Jojo) Alvarez Correa, expressed the hope for the new bank "to be raised for the glory of our native Island".
In the Netherlands Antilles, during the year that is behind us, the foundation was laid for several positive developments in the coming years.
It is a cliché to say that our future is our youth. Cliché or not, however, we have plenty of reasons to be very proud of the youth of our Islands.
